Easy enough to hum, and impossible to forget. A simple melody may hold a wealth of memories, associations, and nostalgia. Lullabies rock us to sleep. Folk songs endure, celebrate, and paint vivid tall tales. A requiem nudges us from grief to memorial and commemoration. By turns amusing, calming, and exciting, these are the songs that guide us through individual trips down memory lane.
The spring concert will feature a celebration of seemingly simple styles – anthems, folk tunes, songs of remembrance, and even surprising renditions of nursery rhymes: from Ralph Hunter’s galloping arrangement of “Humpty Dumpty” to the sweet strains of David Brunner’s “The Lake Isle of Inisfree.” Rounding out the program are carefully selected folk songs from near and far, including a special premiere of a piece by Carlos Arellano, CRC tenor and resident composer.
This spring, audience members will experience the power of unforgettable tunes and the surprising depth of these “simple gifts.”
Tickets are available at the door: $15 general admission, $10 for students and seniors, and free for children 5 and under.
