Bike Rodeos join Bike to Work Day event in Castle Rock
Change up your commute and learn bicycle safety during this year’s Bike to Work Day, June 26.
Castle Rock will host a free breakfast for bicyclists this year from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at Festival Park, near Second and Perry streets. Bikers will also enjoy free bike tune-ups, giveaways and prizes from a variety of event sponsors.
To participate, just bike, carpool, walk or rollerblade to work, and stop by Festival Park on your way. Registration is not required, but those who do will be entered into a drawing for additional prizes from the Denver Regional Council of Governments. Registration is online, biketowork2013.org.
Joining this year’s event will be the Castle Rock Police Department’s Bike Rodeo program for children.
Children ages 5 to 11 can learn how to ride a bike safely by maneuvering through an obstacle course with a police officer walking beside them. There will also be opportunities to have bicycles and helmets checked for safety and proper fit.
All bikes can be registered with Castle Rock police on the spot at the rodeo, which will help get them back to their owners in the event that they are lost or stolen. This event is also at Festival Park.
Bike to Work Day is an annual event to raise awareness of other ways to get where you’re going. Sponsored by the Denver Regional Council of Governments, the goal is to promote bicycling as a commute choice in hopes workers will try it and form a habit of riding to work.
Maps, breakfast location and more information is available online, www.biketowork2013.org.
