Castle Rock June 11, 2013: As temperatures heat up to record-setting highs, the Town of Castle Rock is implementing fire restrictions this summer.
Acting on authority granted by Town Council, Town Manager Mark Stevens and Fire and Rescue Chief Art Morales today implemented Stage 1 fire restrictions.
Under the Stage 1 restrictions, there shall be no:
- Open burning of any kind, except in developed or residential areas on private property
- Use and sale of fireworks.
Fires in constructed, permanent fire pits, fire grates and chimineas are allowed. Charcoal and gas grills are also allowed under Stage 1 restrictions.
Morales said very warm weather along with an increase in vegetation, which acts a fire fuel, led to the restrictions.
“These fire restrictions are a proactive approach to safety in our community. With the high heat and limited rain we have had, conditions are prime to support rapidly growing wildfires,” Morales said. “We need the help of our community to do everything possible to minimize the potential for human-caused fires in our Town.”
As of this time, the Town is still planning its July 4 fireworks display. However, this event depends on fire dangers and restrictions. The Town will update the status of this event online, CRgov.com/July42013.
Of course, Colorado weather can change rapidly, so the Town could increase restrictions, based on conditions. Check CRgov.com/firebans for any updates regarding the current restriction level.
People found to be in violation of the Town’s fire restrictions are subject to punishment of a $1,000 fine, 180 days in jail, or both.
More information about Castle Rock’s restrictions are online, CRgov.com/firebans or by calling the Fire Chief’s Office, 303-660-1066.
The Town of Parker has also ordered the stage 1 fire restrictions.
