The smoke and haze we see in Castle Rock is from the Black Forest Fire. There are no fires burning within Town. Those with respiratory issues should stay indoors to avoid the smoky conditions.

Residents in the extreme southeast corner of Douglas County are on a pre-evaluation notice. They are not being evacuated, but they have been asked to be ready. Again, this does not include Castle Rock.

A Douglas County Strike Team, led by Castle Rock Fire and Rescue, is headed to a location in the extreme southeast corner of Douglas County. The strike team includes a total of 14 firefighters from Castle Rock, Jackson 105 Fire Protection District, Larkspur Fire Protection District, and Franktown Fire Protection District. They will station at a Franktown Fire Station. This is a proactive measure. CRFD is evaluating the situation there and will determine any mitigation measures.

In another proactive move, the Douglas County Emergency Operations Center has also been activated. They are prepared, should evacuations be ordered for southern Douglas County.

The Black Forest Fire is again moving north (it had been headed south) at a rate of about 1 to 2 miles per day, depending on wind speed.
