Join police officers for coffee and conversation in new Coffee with a Cop series in Castle Rock

castle rock police departmentAs in many communities, safety is a top priority in Castle Rock. But here, safety means more than fighting crime; it means getting to know you, the resident or business owner.

That’s why the Castle Rock Police Department is launching its new Coffee with a Cop series. These informal conversations with Castle Rock Police officers at local coffee shops and restaurants give residents and business owners a chance to connect with police in a relaxed atmosphere.

The coffee is free and the conversation is informal. Residents and business owners can visit with officers on any topic, ask questions, share concerns and tell officers about their neighborhood.

The first event is from 8 to 9 a.m. Aug. 20 at

Lost Coffee
390 N. Perry St.
Castle Rock CO

The second event is from 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 29 at

Pegasus Restaurant
313 Jerry St.
Castle Rock CO

The events will continue with two conversations per month through 2013. View the schedule online at CRgov.com/PDcoffee.

“Building positive relationships with our community is one of our priorities,” said Police Chief Jack Cauley. “Coffee with a Cop provides a relaxed atmosphere where our officers can connect with residents and business owners on a personal level. We’re really looking forward to these conversations.”

This series is a first for the department. The national effort was formalized in 2012 and has spread rapidly. Now, more than 175 agencies in 36 states participate. Learn more about the national effort online, coffeewithacop.com.

In Castle Rock, Coffee with a Cop is part of the Police Department’s Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving philosophy, which balances a reactive response to calls for service with proactive problem solving and partnerships. The department also recently hosted its first National Night Out event, and in 2012 relaunched its Bike Patrol as part of this philosophy.

So, pull up a chair, grab some coffee and get to know your local police officers. View a 2013 schedule of Coffee with a Cop online, CRgov.com/PDCoffee.
