The Castle Rock “Lighting of the Star” has been a community event shared by residents for over seventy five years, dating to 1935 when plans were developed by a group of community-minded residents.  The same spirit of volunteerism and generosity that exists today has kept this tradition alive and binds residents with a mutual conviction to preserve their history and traditions. In 1935, the Star was planned as a symbol welcoming residents and travelers alike to Castle Rock.  The Star has played an important role in the lives of generations of townspeople, from the bombing of Pearl Harbor to the Denver Broncos Super Bowl championships to 9-11.
